Be the Match Foundation aids in the treatment of many debilitating diseases that numerous people in our world society have. The registry does this by collecting tissue samples to be matched through DNA analysis. It provides people with the unique opportunity to help a patient by donating bone marrow or umbilical cord blood. Thousands of patients with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases depend on the Be The Match Registry to find a match, and it is a fact that seventy percent of individuals have a hard time finding a match in their own families.
As leaders in our respective communities and as devoted philanthropists among college students, Delta Epsilon Psi takes the initiative to help Be the Match Foundation by supporting them in their mission to create awareness and safe lives through registered donors. Our fraternity is not only committed to continuing awareness for the National Bone Marrow Donor Program, we are also committed to providing potential matches for the national match registry. In the past year, Delta Epsilon Psi registered over 500 individuals to the program with the future aim of increasing the amount annually.
It is our mission to be an outlet for the registry alongside other various chapters by hosting numerous events during our philanthropy weeks as well as throughout numerous dates in the semester that not only raise awareness but also register potential donors. The Rho Chapter of Delta Epsilon Psi has made a tremendous effort to increase the number of registered individuals, by over 50 people, in order to increase the chances of a patient to receive aid in the past two semesters.
